Web Privacy Statement
This document explains CADRA's policies for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. This policy forms part of, and should be read in conjunction with, our Terms and Conditions.
Overview
Canada-Africa Development and Relief Agency (CADRA) recognizes that an individual's right to privacy is an essential right to be protected. We understand the importance of maintaining anonymity and protecting personal information in our care and control. Our relationship with those who support CADRA is founded on trust and we are committed to maintaining this trust.
CADRA is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information. Personal information is collected, used, maintained, and disclosed in compliance with CADRA's Privacy Policy and applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation including, but not limited to, The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (2000, c.5). It confirms our dedication to protecting privacy and maintaining the trust individuals have placed in CADRA. This policy is our guarantee that we will maintain the confidentiality and privacy of the personal information entrusted to us.
CADRA will take all necessary steps to ensure the privacy of individuals, whether they be donors, partners, volunteers, or employees. CADRA will also ensure that one member of staff is designated as privacy officer to ensure CADRA is in compliance with the Act.
In our dealings with third parties such as suppliers, CADRA will ensure that privacy policies and agreements are in place before the relationship commences.
Credit Card Security
CADRA is grateful for the donations we receive that help us to continue our valuable work. It is important to us that the information you give us when making an online donation remains secure.
This website strives to protect your personal information. For security of transmission, we use the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, which encrypts any information you send to us electronically. The encryption process protects your information, such as your credit card number and billing information by scrambling it before it is sent to us from your computer. Once the website receives your transmission, we make commercially reasonable efforts to ensure its security on our system. Your credit card information is therefore secured by a reputable security company. The information is used only for that particular transaction and is not stored.
Why Donating Online is Safe
Once you submit your details they are received and sent on in an encrypted format. No one can access your credit card details on the Internet. This means that donating online is safer than giving your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant. This is how it works:
- Once you have selected the "donate online" button (you may have already done this), your web browser will be connected directly to our secure server. You can see that the connection is secure by looking at the padlock or key icon in the bottom left hand corner of your browser. Your browser may also alert you to the fact that you are connecting to a secure server, and if so, it will also tell you when you are closing the secure connection once you have donated. This is for your information only.
- Our secure server communicates with your browser using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocols, so that all your personal information, including credit or debit card number, and your name and address, is encrypted. This process takes the words and figures you enter, and converts them into bits of code that are then securely transmitted over the Internet.
Once we have received the encrypted data, our secure server then encrypts your information farther, and sends it to your bank to be processed. At no time during the validation process is credit card or debit card data sent over the public Internet. You will receive a receipt immediately after pressing the "Submit" button, if your donation has been accepted.
Unlawful Activities
This website reserves the right to cooperate with local, provincial, national and international authorities in investigations of improper or unlawful activities and this may require the disclosure of personal information. We may also report to other organizations about improper or unlawful user activities on this website and this reporting may include disclosure of personal information relating to those individuals conducting such improper or unlawful activities.
Personal Information
You do not have to provide any personal information on our Web site unless you choose to do so.
We ask for personal information on our "Donate Now" page. We ask for the same information when you make a donation by mail or over the telephone. We use this information to process your donation and to write to you acknowledging receipt of your donation. In addition, your name and other information will be placed on our mailing list. Mailing lists are used for the following purposes:
- Mailings (by post or electronic) and/or phone calls to make a request for your support;
- Mailings (by post or electronic) and/or phone calls to invite supporters to special events;
- Mailings (by post or electronic) and/or phone calls to advise you of interesting ways to support CADRA;
- Electronic mailings to alert you to updated information and interesting features on our Web site.
Selected applications on our Web site allow visitors to subscribe to our e-bulletin by providing CADRA with their name and address. If you provide CADRA with your mailing address or telephone number, CADRA, in addition to sending you the e-bulletin, may also use this information to alert you to updated information and services.
Online Donations and Event Registrations
When you make an online donation or register for an event, we ask for personal information including your name; e-mail and mailing addresses; telephone number; credit card number, type, and expiration date. We use this information only for matters related to your online donation or registration. Your credit card information will be maintained only for a period reasonably necessary to ensure payment has been received.
Online donors WILL NOT be contacted again unless they indicate that they welcome such requests. You WILL NOT receive any print or audiovisual material giving information about or soliciting further donations unless you request them.
Log Files
CADRA collects and uses the information contained within an automatically generated log of all traffic on our website. JavaScript tracking is also included in all pages on our website. The information collected includes IP addresses, browser types, page views and cookie information. We use this information in an aggregate form to calculate overall site traffic patterns, to analyse user trends, and to administer the website. Individual traffic patterns will not be disclosed to any third party. Log files are normally retained for the calendar year in which they were collected and then deleted once annual statistical reports have been published.
Cookies
When you visit a website the server for that site may automatically set a cookie on your computer. A cookie is a small text file that is stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Many sites, including the CADRA website, use cookies to track traffic flows and patterns for statistical purposes. Cookies are also used to remember your user preferences, such as font display size. A CADRA website cookie does not identify you in any way, just the computer used.
The default setting for most browsers is to automatically accept cookies. You may configure your browser to accept all cookies, to notify you when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last option means that certain personalized services will be unavailable.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
CADRA may from time to time change its Privacy Policy as new services are added or old ones changed. Changes will be effective when notice of such change is posted on the CADRA website. Please review this policy regularly for updates.
